Two pairs of underwear can look alike but do different jobs. A soft everyday panty is not automatically period underwear. Here is what to check when shopping online in Pakistan.
Period underwear versus everyday underwear
Everyday underwear is designed for ordinary coverage and comfort. Period underwear is specifically designed for menstrual flow or backup protection. Depending on the product, it has an absorbent panel, a leak-resistant barrier, or both. Capacity and coverage vary, so never assume every period panty works for heavy flow.
Five checks before buying
- Intended use: Look for an explicit statement about menstrual protection, not just soft, breathable or seamless fabric.
- Gusset construction: Check whether the listing describes absorbent material and a leak-resistant barrier. Photos alone cannot establish performance.
- Flow: Check the manufacturer's stated absorbency. If none is given, do not assume protection on heavy days.
- Fit and coverage: The panel should sit where protection is needed; loose leg openings can cause side leaks.
- Care: Washable period panties and disposable period panties are different products. Follow each item's instructions.
Can regular underwear hold a pad?
Yes. Regular underwear can hold a separate sanitary pad. But that does not mean the underwear itself is leak-resistant. A thicker gusset or dark colour alone is not proof of menstrual protection.
Which is better for daily use?
For ordinary days, choose everyday underwear based on comfort, fit and fabric. For menstrual days, choose a product explicitly intended for period use, with protection suited to your flow. On heavy days or long journeys, plan for changes or backup protection instead of relying on an unspecified absorbency claim.
Shop by purpose, not appearance
Browse Hygein's period panties collection for menstrual-use products and read each product description before ordering. Use the period panties size guide to check fit. If you are choosing between different menstrual products, see menstrual cup versus period panty.
Quick answer: Are all panties period panties?
No. Softness, thinness, a dark gusset or a product photo cannot establish menstrual protection. Check intended use, absorbency, coverage and whether the product is reusable or disposable.
